During Martin Luther King Day I…

Today is Martin Luther Day (MLK Day) and once I finally got out of bed, I did a few fun things.  I went to the Market Fair Theater to go see The Lovely Bones.  I had been wanting to see this movie for a long time.  I have not read the book yet, but hope to read it this summer.  I would read it now, but homework is first on the list….see the homework blog…… The movie was excellent and is about a girl who was murdered when she was 14-years-old.  I highly recommend for you to go see the movie!!  I am hoping to buy The Lovely Bones on DVD when it comes out.  That marks one movie off of my list.  The other movies I would like to see are Valentine’s Day and Dear John

After I got home from the movies I got on Facebook , but my mom was timing me, so I did not get to spend too much time on it.  I did complete a note I was tagged in and caught up with a couple of friends.  Before I finished my mom started yelling for help in the kitchen.  So, I logged off and went in  to help my mother cook.  She was making Minestrone Soup and the green beans needed to be snapped.  I learned how to snap beans, which was easier than I thought, haha.  Mom cut up the onion and I sliced carrots.  We added all of the ingredients and now all we have to do is wait for it to cook…..well, my step-dad is home and the soup is done!  I have to go eat dinner, Ministrone Soup…yummie!

Public Schools Have Changed

When public schools first began, they were built around Christian values.   The students had Bibles to take to class and that is what they studied.  Children read the Bible because there were hardly any other books to read.  Prayers were said each day to begin class.  You won’t find much of that in any public schools today.  Teachers can not hardly mention God, especially if it is not part of a lesson.  And God is not part of many public school lessons!

The government is the group that changed everything.  They took God out of school.  My mom told me that they used to say the Lord’s Prayer at school and remembers the Ten Commandments being posted in her classroom.  I don’t ever remember seeing any of that in any public classroom that I was in.

My mom teaches science and sometimes she said that she had to explain the scientific explanation of how the world began.  But she also always talked about the Biblical explanation too.  She said that she just couldn’t tell one side without the other.

I think that if the government had not taken God out of schools, then there would not be so many private schools and Christian schools.  I am glad to be in a Christian school and to know that all of my teachers are Christians.  But I am also glad to know that there are Christian teachers working in public schools, because they need them more than anyone!  The behavior and language of middle school was so bad.  I know that some of those students would not last a day at Village!

I believe that since America is suppose to have freedom of speech and religion, then we should be able to have it in schools and well as anywhere else.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year.  Christmas is next and all of the presents are nice, but Thanksgiving is the time when our family gets together and everything is pretty calm.  It is a time for remembering and thinking about all of the things that we are thankful for.

I am most thankful for my Heavenly Father.  Without Him in my life, I would be lost.  I count on Him everyday and sometimes I think that He is the only one who really listens to me.  I am also thankful for my teachers.  They are all good teachers and they are teaching me a lot.  I am NOT thankful for all of the homework they assign, but I guess I understand.  I just wish that they would talk to each other and not assign so many things due at the same time!

I am thankful for my best friend, Anna Watters.  She has been my best friend since sixth grade.  She has a sense of humor and knows how to make you smile.  She is a good listener and she also gives great advice.  She is always there for me and understands how I feel.  She listens to me during the rough times and she will never ignore the feelings that I have.  She knows how to cheer me up.  She is a good dancer and she always encourages me when I am on the dance floor.  She is always there for me and never leaves me behind.

I am thankful for the freedom that our country has.  Instead of having to cover my face and hair, I can show who I am and can speak my mind and not be afraid of being killed or put in jail.  We can practice any kind of religion that we want and are not forced to worship a god that we don’t believe in.  We are free to own businesses and buy and sell most anything we want.

I am thankful for living today.  You never know when your last breath will be, so you should always live your life to the best.  Some people do not realize how much important life is until it is too late.

These are the things that I am most thankful for!

Dancing From The Heart

Dancing is not just moving your body and making all your moves perfect.  To me it is something more than that;  dancing has much more meaning to me.  I discovered dancing when I was little, and now I am really discovering the true meaning of dancing.  Dictonary.com’s definition:  to leap, skip, etc., as from excitement or emotion; move nimbly or quickly: to dance with joy. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/dancing Dancing helps me relieve my feelings and emotions. I even dance around the house sometimes…haha!   When I dance I can be myself and I dance from my heart.  Sometimes my heart takes over my dancing and I am dancing what I feel without any warning. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my dancing I forget about all struggles, heart aches, stress and so many other things that just disappear when I’m dancing.  I can be myself when I’m dancing, because every movement I make comes from me, not from some dance choreographer.

Not only that, but when I dance, I dance for God and I communicate with Him.  This is sooo hard to explain because it is a connection that God and I share.  Have any of you had a feeling that someone you love is present but not with you at the exact place you are?  Well that’s how I feel when I am dancing.  When I dance from my heart, I get this powerful powerful feeling that God is listening to me and He is there with me.  In the Bible it says many times that God never ignores you, He is always with you and will always be with you as long as you belive in Him.  He won’t forget about you, the Lord is always available if you need Him no matter what.  He will open His arms up and comfort you and say Do not worry little child, for I will keep you under my wing.  When I am dancing, I feel that God accepts me for what I am and that he loves everything about me, even when I don’t.  I hope that I will be able to dance forever!

Homework!

Homework, homework, homework!  It seems like that is all that I ever do.  Every night.  Come home and do math.  Then it is time to eat.  Next comes a shower.  Then I have to study for a test or make out vocabulary cards, or work in the vocabulary book.  Or I might have to read a book and answer study guide questions.  And there is always a test to study for.  Every weekend, it is the same thing.  My mom tries to get me to get ahead during the weekend so the week won’t be so bad.  Even though I do homework all weekend, I still have enough to keep me up past bedtime to do during the week.

At the beginning of the new nine weeks, I had five tests in two days.  I don’t mean to complain, but I have no life except homework.  As hard as I work, I still don’t always make great grades, but if time spent of homework were a grade, I would have an A plus!

I think that schools should remember that teenagers need time to exercise and have a social life.  I do not know how people who play sports do it.  It takes all of my time just to get the work done.  People who play sports have to take out time to practice and play games.  I wonder sometimes how they get everything done.  If I had a school, I would only give homework one night per subject.  That way, you would only have to think about one thing.  And you might even have time to watch a movie or go for a walk.

Connor Maxwell and Cameron Maxwell

Connor Maxwell was 17 years old when she died.  She was a senior at Village Christian Acadamy.  She was on the JV Varsity Cheer Squad and she was on the Student Council. She was loved dearly and was looked up to greatly. It is a shame that her life was taken.  I first met Connor at Snyder Memorial Church.  She was in my dance group, Steps of Faith.  She was a very graceful dancer and I looked to her when I was not sure of a dance step.  She was funny, but knew when to be serious.  She was known for having perfect hair, even when she was dancing!  It is a shame that her life had to end so tragically.

Cameron Maxwell was a 15 year old guy who was a freshman at Village Christian Acadamy. He sat next to me in Journalism and he made me laugh every day. He was such a pleasure to be around with his sense of hummor!!

All that matters now is that they are definately in a place that is better than earth. It is very hard to understand why they had to leave us, especially in the way that they left us.   They will always be in our hearts and so, in that way, they will never leave us. I miss them greatly and I know other people do to, but God has a reason for everything.  Maybe one day we will understand why they are gone, but for now we will just have to trust and have faith in God.
